CVS Health will be closing Encompass Fertility by CVS Pharmacy, discontinuing operations and medication shipments in the coming months. Current patients will be supported through the remainder of their treatment cycle. We are no longer accepting new patients.

CVS Health will continue supporting people on their family building or fertility preservation journeys, including dispensing of covered medications through CVS Specialty and medical benefit coverage through Aetna.

What fertility clinics are doing to keep everyone safe during COVID-19

Fertility clinics had to close in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. There wasn’t enough information about how to keep patients safe and help stop the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, it meant that people suddenly had to stop or put their fertility treatments on hold. Lives had to be put on hold. Some people were not able to start fertility treatments, others had to stop. It was stressful and disappointing for a lot of people. While there is still uncertainty about the virus and clinics may have to again make changes, many clinics have opened again with careful practices put into place to help keep everyone safe.

Some safety practices include1:

  • Limit physical contact between patients and staff. For example, have phone or video appointments instead of in-person whenever possible.
  • Let fewer people into the clinic at one time. Limit the number of people who come to your appointments with you.
  • Schedule staggered appointments so everyone can social distance.
  • Change the set-up of the waiting room so people can social distance.
  • Screen everyone who comes into the clinic for symptoms of COVID-19 or exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Make sure all clinic staff wear masks and encourage patients and visitors to do the same.
  • Encourage clinic staff and patients to get the COVID-19 vaccine. (link to Fertility and the COVID-19 vaccine)

Depending how the COVID-19 virus behaves, these guidelines might change. Talk to your clinic about their specific rules. Throughout your fertility journey, we are here to support you.
